NWAMI was launched in the year 2011 as the North Wales Association for Multicultural Integration
by then Clwyd West MP Rt.Hon. David Jones in the midst of overflowing audience at the Colwyn Bay
Town Hall. NWAMI’s mission is to promote multiculturalism as well as to raise awareness of
integration which is to integrate incomers from diverse cultural background with the indigenous
British people. The expected outcome was to reduce racial hatred in the society. But unfortunately,
NWAMI did not get much support from the beholder of Law and Order, the police services of North
Wales. It is still a mystery to me why?
Over the last thirteen years, NWAMI held many high-profile events such as:
2012 An open-air Multicultural event in Colwyn Bay with performers from whole of UK and India
which was 100% self-Funded.
2012: Organised Big Debate on Diverse Culture with an all-party Panel headed by Bill Ellis Jones at
the Town Hall Colwyn Bay.
2013: A 12 hours long Gala event on Multiculture and Multifaith hosted by the then Vice Chancellor
Prof. John Hughes, Bangor University. Professor Hughes. He even gave a reception party at the
council.
2015: held an event titled “Unity in Diversity” at the Senedd Foyer, Welsh Assembly. NWAMI
president Mark Isherwood hosted the event Then minister for Equality and tackling poverty was the
guest of honour.
2017: NWAMI held a multicultural extravaganza titled ” Promoting Diversity through Music and
Dance”, the event was hosted by then Clwyd West MP Rt. Hon David Jones.
2018 NWAMI launched International Integration Day initiative at the House of commons,
Sponsored by MP Liz Saville Roberts. Which was later successfully celebrated at the Temple of
peace, Cardiff.
Since 2019 NWAMI celebrates the festival of lights festival, so now our annual festivals are:
a) NWAMI Interculture, b) International Integration Day and c) he festival of lights.
We are very pleased that we appear to inspire many individuals and organisations so much that
there is rapid growth of multicultural hubs around North, South and West corners of Wales. Many of
them are well supported by concerned authorities and flourishing day by day. Therefore, my dream
of promoting Multiculturism is accomplished within Wales
We have already taken Multiculturism and Integration by an extension to Malta, Maria Gabrella
Doubleseen being the Founder Chair. Now my aim is to work within the Commonwealth. NWAMI’s
Commonwealth Research Centre was virtually launched in2020 by Prof. Iwan Davies, the then Vice
Chancellor of Bangor University, This year Rt. Hon. David Jones MP sponsored a discussion Panel
where all Parliamentarians and Diplomats around the World were invited. Dr Bala Chandran was
nominated as the chair of the project headed by the NWAMI chair .On 9 th October 2024 Both
Rt.Hon. David Jones and Dr Bala Chandran will unveil the plaque. NWAMI is also working on Revival
of the Historic Congo House based in Colwyn Bay A plaque on that effect will be jointly unveiled by
Her Majesty the Queen Bakembisa Kuyalu Mafuta of Congo and Cllr Ricki Owen the Mayor of
Colwyn Bay.
